Living in an Insulated Strong Home
The home was built with additional rebar throughout and on the corners for additional earthquake strength. The doors and windows were installed in a specific way to withstand hurricanes and tropical storms. Most homes on the island have one wall that faces the sun and the interior wall and room get very hot throughout the day. At night if this is a bedroom, it will take hours to cool down. If you touch the West wall in Casa Vieques it will be cool to the touch and you can rest comfortably immediately.
The roof also uses this technology which prevents excessive heating during the day so you can be comfortable when you come back from the beach. The technology is from a company in San Juan and is available to answer any questions you may have.

The walls of Casa Vieques are 11 inches thick. There are 2 1/2 inches of insulation on each side and a wall of 6 inches of concrete.
